Studying: BA Accounting and Finance
- I speak: English and Mandarin
My name is Xi Chen (Chen). I studied Foundation in Business and Management at INTO Newcastle before pursuing my undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance at University of Leeds. I chose Leeds University because it is not only a highly reputable university with outstanding teaching standards, but also offers lots of volunteering and part-time jobs opportunities so students can gain valuable work experience and a range of student facilities such as skills@library, the student union and others.
One of the things that I like about my course is the business school holds networking events and guest lectures from companies like PWC and EY frequently for students to discover more about their future and network with the employers.
The University offers a lot of help and guidance for students such as the Career Centre, the Wellbeing Centre which provides guidance on your job applications, workshops for stress management and others. My favourite thing about the University is that it has newly refurbished libraries which enable students to study comfortably and whenever they like. Sometimes I will join the cultural events that are held by the student union which is a good chance to interact with people from different backgrounds.
When I am not studying, in my spare time I go to The Edge to train in order to keep fit and healthy. I also love going to the city centre to hang out with friends and join some events held by the City Council such as film festivals, Leeds Festival and many more. Besides that, I also go travelling around the UK with my friends which helps me broaden my knowledge and learn about the history of different cities.
The best thing I love about Leeds is that it is a student orientated city, with a range of nightlife entertainment and bars which gives great student deals and offers. The transportation system is convenient for people to travel around the city as well. Furthermore, there are lots of business headquarters and branches located in here, thus you can always apply for jobs in order to gain work experience.
I currently live in university accommodation and it is a nice place to live in and socialise with people from other countries. I enjoy living here as people sometimes will hold parties and activities for us to join which is the best chance to interact with different people. It also provides 24h security to ensure students’ safety. The best thing about the accommodation is it is near to the University and gym membership is included.
