Studying: BSc Food Science & Nutrition
- I speak: English, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin
I’m Erinna and I’m in my first year studying Food Science and Nutrition. I chose to come to Leeds because it has a great reputation for Food Science. It is ranked second in the Complete University Guide league table. The modules offered are also very interesting and varied, so you get to learn a lot of different things and won’t get bored! The best thing about my course has to be the lab sessions, where we make things like bread, yogurt and canned beans! The lecturers are all very knowledgeable and are keen to share their knowledge with students, so you really get to learn from the best people.
The university has many facilities such as 24h libraries and the Edge, which is the university gym. Our Student Union is one of the best in the country. It has an array of shops and bars and is like a mini shopping mall! It also has a range of services such as Unipol, which helps you find houses to live in and Joblink, a student employment service. This year, I am in the Indonesian Society, the Backstage Society and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. I strongly encourage everyone to join a society as it is a great way to make new friends and discover new things, and also develop new skills. There are over 250 clubs and societies in the Union, so there is something for everyone.
Leeds is a student-friendly city. It is busy enough that there is always something for you to do, but without the hustle and bustle you get in other big cities. Everything is close together so you can get around easily on foot. A lot of the shops and restaurants have great student deals too.
This year I am living at a university accommodation, in a very convenient location. It is only a 2-minute walk to campus and a 10-minute walk to the city centre! There is also an express supermarket right below the building and it has 24h security.
