Studying: MSc in Transport Planning and the Environment
- I speak: English, Spanish and Portugese (Basic)
My name is Luis and before coming to Leeds I studied a degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Engineering in Mexico. I heard about the University of Leeds when doing my research about the best universities to study a Transport related masters and found that the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), which is part of the university, is a well-ranked institution for Transport Planning programmes. The environmental stream caught my attention since this is a discipline that is currently requiring professionals in my country and I decided to pursue my studies here.
From the first day in Leeds, I received a warm welcome from the ITS and the International Office staff as well as all the information I needed about my course and the University. The facilities and experience of the professors are one of the best things the university has to offer. In addition, the excellent atmosphere of the University’s Union is one of my favourite things. My course has provided me with cutting-edge knowledge about transport and software that major transport firms ask for when recruiting. Moreover, due to the great link the University has with these firms, they come to the University looking for future professionals and we get the necessary guidance for the application process.
When I am not in classes or working on assignments I enjoy going to pubs with my friends and walking through the city centre. However, one of my favourite places is definitely the Hyde Park Picture House which offers an exclusive catalogue of films and has special prices for students. Leeds is a truly international and diverse city, thus you can find a wide range of activities to participate in when you are not studying: from wine tasting to joining the Quidditch societie. I have had the opportunity to try sports and activities I had never tried before.
I am currently living in a 6-bedroom shared house in Headingley, which is one of the most famous areas in Leeds for students. It is surrounded by restaurants, pubs and supermarkets and they are within just a few minutes’ walk.
