Studying: BSc International Business
- I speak: English and Mandarin
My name is Shiang Ling from Taiwan. I’m currently a second-year undergraduate student studying International Business. Before coming to Leeds, I studied at a High School back in Taipei and studying abroad was always my biggest dream. I decided that doing a bachelors degree was the perfect chance to fulfil my dream, and that was the start of my journey. The University of Leeds was a recommendation from my friend who was studying in Leeds for a Master’s Degree at that time. She highly recommended Leeds to me, saying that Leeds is the perfect destination for international students with big international student population, student friendly city and the high academic ranking. Now, I’ve already been living in Leeds for 3 years, and I definitely do not regret making this decision.
The International Business program provides a wide range of business related modules to choose from, and the good balance of compulsory and optional modules allows me to decide which business area that I would want to study more in depth. Moreover, because of the international feature of my program, there are many international students in the course and gives me great opportunity to make friends around the world.
Among all the good experiences Leeds has offered me, my favourite thing about the University is the energetic and welcoming atmosphere that Leeds has. Whenever I walk around the University, there is always something interesting happening on campus, such as society events or the weekly farmers’ market, and people here are all very nice and friendly. I really enjoy my time here in Leeds. I not only experienced a whole new culture that is very different from mine, but also made many international friends ay the University.
Outside my studies, I always try to travel as much as possible to challenge myself and experience new cultures, and have already been to over 20 European countries so far. I would highly recommend every student to take the opportunity to explore Europe. At the weekend, Leeds city is great for students to relax and take some time away from their studies. As a very busy and lively city, Leeds offers everything you will ever need, from shopping malls and night life to park and farmers markets, there are many things to do. My favourite place is Corn Exchange , which is a traditional building full with small independent shops. Furthermore, it is very easy to visit other cities, such as Manchester and York, via the convenient transport system.
For accommodation, I’ve been living in the same private student accommodation for three years due to its perfect location, near to the Merrion Centre and easy access to both city centre and university.
